Taxpayers Get Golden Shower

We’re focusing today on Mack “MackDaddy” Whittle, longtime CEO of South Financial Group, who pushed

up his retirement mould month so he could cash out with a $18 million golden parachute upstanding before sending his bank hat in hand to the feds to provoke $347 million in choice grade a prime bailout money.

You don’t have to know too much about complex derivatives or even simple accounting to know that all dollars are fungible. So the more money out to Whittle is more money needed from the taxpayer to keep South Financial Group on its feet.

But we also know Whittle isn’t the only one who’s pulled something like this. And we want to put together a list of everyone who has. It doesn’t have to be precisely like this. Gazillion dollar corporate retreats while you’ve turned your company over to the Treasury Department’s corporate ICU will do fine as well.

Klingaman fits right in at Nourse

Klingaman

Some people spend a lifetime finding their niche, but for Danielle Klingaman, her path was clear early on.

“i’ve always loved being at tutor,” she said.

Klingaman, who assumed her new role as principal of the L.G. Nourse Elementary School in June, looks completely comfortable in her new surroundings. She spent the summer preparing to greet her 364 students and meeting the two past principals, Linda Ashley and K. Gerald Smith, who helped with her training.

“I felt ready when the kids finally came in,” said Klingaman. “The parents have been very welcoming and positive.”

Klingaman, who grew up in Blackstone, graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in psychology. After graduation she worked in Providence, R.I. in a residential program for teenagers with mental health and behavioral issues.

While working with the teens she realized two great loves in her life; working with children, and Eric, now her husband, who also worked with the students in the program. While still working, she returned to school to get her special education degree. She spent six years as a special education teacher in Wrentham, while obtaining her masters degree in educational leadership from Bridgewater State College. Klingaman then moved to Central Elementary School in East Bridgewater, where she was hired three years ago as an assistant principal to serve 850 students in preschool through the third grade.

“I get really attached to the people I work with,” said Klingaman. “I have been fortunate to be able to work in three great school systems.”

Gina Williams, principal of Central Elementary, said she and Klingaman were both new to their respective posts and grew into the job together. Williams said Klingaman’s experience in special education was a real asset when she served as the team leader for the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings.

“She’s just a real go-getter,” said Williams. “She is very talented at getting a group of people together to solve problems.”

Klingaman said though she was very happy at Central Elementary, she heard of the position at L.G. Nourse and knew it was what she was hoping for professionally. Though she did not have plans to move, she decided to apply.

“Once I saw the school and met the people I knew it was what I wanted,” she said.

Klingaman said she likes the fact that L.G. Nourse is such a small, close-knit community.

“I like that it is a small school,” said Klingaman “What you really want to do is spend time with the kids.”

Norton School Superintendent Patricia Assay said the selection committee knew 10 minutes into the interview process that Klingaman was the right candidate.

Williams said Klingaman’s strengths in leadership; discipline, special education and curriculum development make her a natural choice for principal.

“She’s a jack-of-all-trades,” said Williams “I was not surprised to hear that she got the position.”

As Klingaman gets to know her new students, parents and staff, she says she is truly impressed with everyone’s efforts. She credits her predecessor Linda Ashley with developing a cohesive crisis plan and doing all the paperwork to secure the school’s recent accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The accreditation of the Project Early program at the L.G. Nourse, earns the school the honor of being one of the first programs in the country to achieve this status.

Klingaman also has high praise for the custodial and administrative staff, and is grateful to Smith for coming to the school twice a week all summer to help her train.

Klingaman said she is excited about the new math program, and working with the staff to select a new English language arts program for next year. She said beyond working to raise MCAS scores, and collaborating with curriculum co-coordinators Amy Berdos and Sharon Roberts, on learning programs, she does not wish to make any major changes to the school at this time.

“I feel that the school has a lot of traditions and events that the parents and students really look forward to, and I hope to continue those traditions,’ she said.

Guard shot during robbery attempt at NYC hotel

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:43 pm от thewaveoftheemerald

NEW YORK (AP) — Gunfire erupted in the storied Waldorf-Astoria hotel during a brazen robbery attempt Saturday at a lobby jewelry store, wounding a security guard and sending guests diving for cover.

An armed gunman tried to rob a jewelry store in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel on Saturday.

Classic adelaide

An armed gunman tried to rob a jewelry store in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel on Saturday.

The 54-year-old guard, Gregory J. Boyle, was shot in the chest but was expected to survive, and a suspect was arrested on charges including attempted murder and assault.

Hotel guest Christine Cataldo said she was looking at a display of engagement rings near the entrance to the store, Cellini Jewelers, when she heard the first shot.

"It sounded like a bomb. One big boom. And then people started running," said Cataldo, of Long Island. "I looked up, and I saw a man in a suit with silver hair grabbing another guy."

The mayhem began when the black-garbed suspect, identified as Rafael Rabinovich-Ardans, 20, pulled out a gun in the jewelry store and used the weapon to smash two display cases full of expensive rings and necklaces, said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because detectives were still investigating.

Boyle, a retired New York Police Department detective, confronted the man. About three gunshots rang out as the two wrestled and fell to the floor, though it wasn’t clear who fired, the official said. Both were armed.

One bullet hit Boyle in the left upper chest, the official said.

Another hotel employee then tackled the suspect, the police official said. The suspect’s gun went off again as they grappled, but that bullet apparently struck no one. Hotel security staffers arrived and took Rabinovich-Ardans into custody.

No telephone number could be found for Rabinovich-Ardans, of Queens, and police did not know whether he had a lawyer. It was unclear whether he had any previous connection to the jewelry store, they said.

Witness Jeff Johnston of Raleigh, N.C., said he was near the store when chaos broke out.

"All of a sudden people were running and hiding behind hotel furniture," he said.

Boyle was in stable condition late Saturday at Bellevue Hospital, police said.

The Waldorf-Astoria was the world’s largest hotel when it opened in its current Park Avenue spot in 1931, according to the hotel’s Web site. It was previously on Fifth Avenue.

The Art Deco hotel quickly became synonymous with luxury and part of popular culture, appearing in the 1945 Ginger Rogers film "Weekend at the Waldorf" and garnering a mention in the classic Cole Porter song "You’re the Top."

Cellini Jewelers, a high-end boutique that specializes in luxury watches adorned with diamonds and gold, opened in the hotel lobby in 1977.

No one answered the phone at the store Saturday. A saleswoman at Cellini’s sister store in Manhattan said she hadn’t heard from the managers at the location where the shooting took place and had no additional information.

Jermain Taylor Gets Another Chance At The Big Time By Defeating Jeff Lacy

Ufc results

for a performance in which jermain taylor landed 48 percent of his punches to jeff lacy’s 17, this comeback win and super middleweight (168 lbs.) debut for taylor was strangely underwhelming. he started potty nervous before pronouncement an beyond belief rhythm. he got decked legitimately in the one marshal he lost, unvaried if the ref didn’t see it that way. then he tied up a bunch, patently worried about getting decked again, and by the end of the fight looked like he was start to tire.it was the best and worst of taylor, all wrapped up in one. there’s a on the verge of subterfuge, benefit of anyone feeling generous: “it’s all about getting your confidence back,” taylor said afterward, answering questions roughly his back-to-promote losses to kelly pavlik. “this fight was a confidence builder.” whatever one’s generosity level, i do suspect it was enough to get him a major fight and try to re-certify himself as one of the top men in all of boxing, and from that standpoint, it counts as a good fortune.

Top Colleges Working Together to Solve Nation’s Water Woes

Combined Water Problems Map

combined water issues map from watercampws

In reporting about our current and impending national freshwater issues I have occassionally received criticism/feedback along the lines of “water conservation may be important in places like Africa, but we live in the U.S…so quit the scare tactics!”.

Carrie underwood just a dream

I find this ‘we-invented-water!’ attitude troubling considering the myriad of water issues facing our country today. Issues that, if not dealt with soon, will become a crisis making the oil problem look like a bad hair day.

So how best do I illustrate our current water woes to the folks who do not appreciate my water conservation tips?

…I got it! How about I get some leading minds in the field together to impart their focused wisdom? And accompany said wisdom with PICTURES!

Great idea me!

Ayers, Wright & Farrakhan Crawl out From Under Their Rock

little by smidgin the snakes are coming out from under their rocks. three horseman of america’s apocalypse: nation of islam cur louis farrakhan, reverend jeremiah wright, and terrorist bill ayers. any more that their buddy senator barack obama has been elected president, these three presidential amigos have unwavering that they cannot hurt their office-seeker any more. all three have the same foolish story…its all the press’ fault.election over, ayers, wright & farrakhan transpirenovember 09, 2008 9:16 pm

In case you care?

“For nine months, I kept stromectol online quiet,” Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said today at Mosque Maryam in Chicago, “because I saw that the good words that I spoke about this beautiful young man” — President-elect Obama — “at our Saviours’ Day convention and the way they were misused. I decided it would be better for me to just be quiet rather than be drawn into the controversy that was swirling around his pastor, Father Pfleger, and others.”

“I feel freer today to say the things that are in my heart,” said the controversial religious leader. You lioresal online can see his speech HERE.

He’s Freer? Here’s one of the things Wright said during the campaign

“god is angry because of the ideas of neoconservatives,” farrakhan said. “many so-called jews and christians have accepted the aplomb of an imperialist america, even without any aggression or provocation.”

I hate to think he was holding back.

Last week, Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright emerged to speak at Kingdom Life Christian Church sponsored by the Theological Education Institute of Hartford.

“The world doesn’t know about my 41 years of ministry, or my writing of books, because it was all taken down to a 10-second sound bite that the media chose to show about a sermon that was delivered seven years ago,” Wright said. “The media didn’t care about the whole sermon and what it was about. They just used those 10 seconds and used it as a weapon of mass destruction against [Obama’s] campaign.”

Keep on whining Jerimiah. These are the sermons that YOUR church released. I have watched the sermons, the sound bytes have NOT been taken out of context. I thought preachers aren’t supposed to lie.

And on election day, education professor William Ayers, a former member of the violent radical group the Weather Underground, gave an interview to the New Yorker’s David Remnick.

Nba

Ayers told Remnick that he knew Obama only slightly: “I think my relationship with Obama was probably like that of thousands of others in Chicago and, like millions and millions of others, I wished I knew him better.” He described what happened to him as “Swift-boating.”

“It’s all guilt by association,” Ayers said. “They made me into a cartoon character — they threw me up onstage just to pummel me.”

Not guilt by association, it was guilt by alliance. Of course he was pummeled and Obama’s relationship was pummeled:

BILL AYERS HAS LEARNED NOTHING in the years since he was a terrorist. He still thinks he and his comrades should be forgiven, because their terrorism was “propaganda of the deed” meant to “blaze away the masters of war,” a cause for which he used “explosive words at first, slowly replaced by actual bombs.” He still thinks that America “shatters community everywhere”?and intends the publication of Fugitive Days to encourage
