Easton man dead in Mansfield bank robbery

one easton man is dead and another under arrest following a bank robbery in mansfield thursday evening. mansfield police chief arthur o’neill, said mansfield public shelter dispatchers received a call at 4:53 p.m. from employees at north easton savings bank, reporting a robbery. employees described the red svu getaway car to police. five mansfield officers responded to the bank’s location on 71 copeland dr. and checked the surrounding areas for the treatment of the car. police located and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of school and spring streets, about three-fourths of a mile from the bank. protect approached the car, and the operator, george moore, 21,of 41 foundry street in easton at once surrendered without incident and was placed under arrest. passenger david a. semenza, 20 of 28 gaslight lane in north easton, who is identified as the person who robbed the bank, port side the mechanism and began approaching the mansfield officers. “(semenza) approached the officers in a looming manner acting as if he had a gun,” said o’neill in a written statement to the subject to. o’neill said semenza continued to approach the officers in a threatening style, and “believing that they were in danger by reason of their lives” the officers opened fire, difficult semenza at the go out. an undisclosed sum of money stolen from the bank, and clothing worn during the hold-up were recovered at the scene. o’neill said that no officers or bank personnel were injured in the incident. “all of the involved officers have been placed on paid administrative mislay as per mansfield policemen policy,” said o’neill in his stament. the streets adjacent the incident were cordoned mouldy until 10 p.m., and four boston news stations broadcast live from the scene with their 11 p.m. reports. the shooting took house across the street from a day fancy center. the incident is under investigatigation by detectives from the bristol county region attornery’s office. cathy gilbertie knipper can be reached at 508-967-3514 or cknipper@cnc.com.
