we’ll admit it. we, have a weakness for, totally taste for abc’s the bachelorette. there’s just something about watching 25 guys bow down up front a hot, aggressive woman that stirs our inner feminist. and we over deanna pappas, the real-estate means from georgia who’d had her determination broken by brad womack on season eleven of the bachelor, is remarkably boss. she’s been brutally efficient at sending the duds competent in — she even got rid of both men she’d taken on a two-on-one man. and she’s had the guys do capital-car racing and four-wheeling and kicked their asses each time.
Speaking of the stock-car race, it was during that episode that one particular bachelor, Graham Bunn, caught our attention. “Are you nervous?” DeAnna asked. “I don’t even own a car!” he said. “I live in Manhattan so I just take the subway every day.” Aw! One of our own! Plus, he comes off as moody, prone to jealousy, commitment-phobic, and emotionally stunted, just like every guy we’ve dated in this town. How could you not root for him?

Then lo and behold, Graham — who we might mention is ridiculously hot — emerged as a front-runner. (We like to think it’s because DeAnna wanted to move here.) He was the only guy who made DeAnna schoolgirl giddy. But they argued a ton and she sent him home on the latest episode for an inability to talk about his feelings. It was a heartbreaker of a good-bye, with DeAnna crying and saying that she was sending home the one person she thought she was falling in love with, and Graham giving her a note “for you and you alone, not for any show, not for any person but you.” On Tuesday, they’ll have their first meeting since the show on “The Men Tell All” reunion special. Jada Yuan caught up with Graham to find out what happened the night he was dismissed, and whether he’s free now to date the rest of us.
Did you watch the episode where you got dismissed? Yes, I have seen that one. Heh-heh. I watched it with a few friends and, um, it went as well as can be expected, you know. That was a difficult episode to choose to watch.
How’d you feel about your depiction? Well, obviously I am depicted as a very closed-off person, which I don’t think is entirely true. But in that situation, yes, I thought it was very fair that they depicted me in that manner, because with DeAnna I was very closed off to her.
What did you think when she said she was falling in love with you? Um, it was a little painful. I felt like I had hurt her, and that’s something that you never want to do with anyone, let alone someone who you spent the past few weeks with.
Were you falling for her? I was not falling in love with her, no. But I did have strong feelings for her.
Then she started bawling in front of you. What went through your head then? I knew that it hurt at the moment, but that everything was going to be for the best. She and I both knew it. It was more mutual than you will ever see.
Why did you go on the show in the first place? You know, because it was an opportunity to meet a girl that had the backing of an entire network. And when you go out to meet people you go on referrals of friends and families. And if you know an entire network is going to base an entire multi-million-dollar show on someone, you would imagine that that person would just be an unbelievable person to have in your life. I was excited to meet her.
Had you seen The Bachelor? I’d actually never seen an episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette before I went on the show.
Were you prepared to propose in two weeks? Yeah, definitely. But, see, you go into the show prepared for the concept of marriage, but the variable in that is you don’t know the person when you go into it. And there were quite a few concerns that I had with her, and I’m sure she had just as many with me.

When it rains it pours. Fortunately, the actual rain showers held off just long enough for 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars from Newton and Everett to square off in the District Tournament at Upper Falls Field last night.However, Newton’s offense certainly poured it on with the help of some shaky defense by Everett. Newton won the game in dominant fashion, taking a mercy rule-shortened, 14-0 win after 4-and-a-half innings.“Errors kill you, errors kill you every time,” said Everett coach Michael Vitukevich. “And that’s what undid them this time and they didn’t settle down until the fourth inning.”Newton jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning on only two hits. Leadoff batter Jake Rosenthal reached on a error by Everett catcher Bobby Allen and two batters later, Jack St. Clair reached on an error from second basemen Corey Kidd. The two early miscues were a preview of things to come.Rosenthal was driven in on Nick Sobel’s line-drive single into left field and St. Clair was plated by Dan Anderson’s single to right. Sobel and Anderson both came around to score on a series of passed balls. Eric Howard, who got on with a walk, also scored on passed balls and before Everett could blink the hosts held a 5-0 lead.“That’s huge, I mean when you get a big lead like that, especially when they hand it to you, it just boosts your confidence,” said Newton coach Elliot Loew. “And you play like there is no way you are going to lose and that’s the way our kids played.”Newton added three more runs in the second inning and six in the third. Thanks to some dominant pitching by Avi Adler-Cohen and St. Clair, Everett was given no chance to crawl back into the game.Adler-Cohen picked up the win by pitching the first three innings, allowing no runs on only two hits. Those two hits came from the first two Everett batters of the game, after which Adler-Cohen settled in nicely on the hill, striking out seven straight batters at one point. Adler-Cohen fanned Bobby Allen to end the top of the first inning and then struck out the side in the second and third innings.“He was dominant, I mean he had them guessing. He was overpowering,” said Loew. “Defensively they (Everett) may have had some problems, but obviously, they had some kids who could hit and he shut them down.”“Honestly I think it’s the Tim Wakefield effect,” said Vitukevich. “Everyone’s used to hitting against kids that pitch the ball 70 miles per hour and he comes in and he’s got a lot of off-speed stuff, a lot of curveballs and it’s not a pitcher their going to expect to see.”St. Clair continued where Adler-Cohen left off in two innings of flawless relief, allowing no runs or hits while striking out one and walking none. The only player to reach base was Everett left fielder Richie Cutlip, who reached on an error.Everett’s Adam Kader picked up the loss for Everett. Kader couldn’t get out of the second inning and finished with eight runs allowed on two hits in 1‰ innings of work. Kader struck out one batter and walked four, including the last three he faced.Newton will be in action tonight night against either Malden of Medford at the Albemarle Playground. Newton’s coaching staff sent a message of humility to their team after the blowout win.“We just told them not to count on this win for anything because it was a sloppy game on their part early,” said Loew. “Either Malden or Medford tomorrow night are going to be very tough defensively, so no, we don’t take anything out of this.”

Harsh, but I acknowledge that Roine and co. are some of the best instrumentalists around. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that I like the purely instrumental passages of this album quite a bit. They have solid, bluesy grooves, Roine’s guitar obviously taking center stage. Yet, I get headaches from grinding my teeth whenever he starts singing about the master plan, the message from the king of kings, or the blood of Jesus on the nail… come on!
I can take optimism in my music, and I can certainly take beauty… but The Flower King[s] is neither– it’s slop dredged from the bucket of Christian rock disguised as something progressive, then slapped against the ears until one finally breaks down and joins the Flower Kings bandwagon. Be forewarned! If you equate musical elegance and class as patronizing morality– then Stolt’s collective body of work is for you!

Ford will close its Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne for nine weeks — four weeks longer than previously announced — starting on June 23. Birthplace to Lincoln Navigators and Ford Expeditions, the MTP has come in for hard times due to the plummeting market for SUVs. Since January, Expedition sales are down 31 percent; Navigators, 22 percent. Once bread and butter for American automakers, SUVs have fallen victim to $4-a-gallon gasoline.

To the lay observer, the temporary MTP closure is just another symptom of the shift away from SUVs, but it actually signifies a whole lot more for American automakers: At the height of the SUV boom in the late ’90s, the MTP was the most profitable factory, in any industry, anywhere in the world.
Keith Bradsher, Detroit bureau chief of The New York Times from 1996 to 2001, wrote in his book High and Mighty: The Dangerous Rise of the SUV:
the factory’s annual production was worth almost $11 billion — greater than the global sales in 1998 for holdings 500 companies like northwest airlines, cbs, texas instruments, honeywell, and nike … while ford had 53 set-up plants worldwide, the michigan truck plant accounted for a third of the company’s unexceptional profits.
That tremendous SUV wealth benefited not only the company, but the workers. At the height of the Expedition craze, unionized assembly-line workers at MTP earned as much as $100,000 a year (including overtime). Point of reference: Salary.com calculates (in 2008 dollars) that a similar worker in the 90th percentile earns just over $55,000 a year, with fewer chances for overtime.
As SUV production slows, automakers continue to ramp up production at car factories. General Motors announced Monday that it would add a third shift at its Lordstown, Ohio, plant, which builds Pontiac G5s (25/35 mpg) and suddenly desirable Chevrolet Cobalts (24/33 mpg).

As a result of the corporate strategies that have led to the closing of this, as well as several of our other “niche” blogs, I am pleased to tell you that our BlackBerry coverage will continue, and I will be a big part of it.
Over the last several months, I’ve noticed from our server logs that our posts about third-party BlackBerry software — productivity utilities, downloadable games, even stuff you never would have dreamed of — has garnered (Yes, I just mind-associated Jennifer, too) significant amount of page views. In my new role handling BlackBerry, Palm and Symbian OS for Download Squad, my mantra will be, if its downloadable, and is compatible with any of the OS’ I just named, it is a candidate for coverage.

Why? Because while one Ms. Lohan’s BlackBerry use won’t really impact RIM financially, a new contract or even whispers of a new device most certainly will. I know it did with the Pearl.

Readers, I remember the factory that my Mom worked, and how she described what it was like when they turned the lock for the last time. Now — more years hence than you want to know — I am the one turning the lock.
But on second thought, maybe not exactly.
