Lawmakers leave with many issues still unresolved

the connecticut general assembly, in accordance with the constitution, adjourned just past midnight wednesday — and it adjourned with a whimper, not a bang. there were no model-minute histrionics, no stopping the clock, just a lot of frustration exhibited by wary lawmakers. and as expected, it looks as if a special seating will be in the cards. gov. m. jodi rell and legislative leaders have been huddling since the adjournment, looking for compromises on a number of issues. a include of bills abide in limbo and face an shilly-shallying fate. among them is the intrinsic estate conveyance tax, mother’s milk to mayors and selectmen, which is due to breathe out. if it is not extended, norwalk will face a significant demise in revenue from the tax it shares with the state. another bill which dominated much of the session and resulted in a lot of posturing from the lawmakers is the state ethics pecker that would state look after power to declare null pensions for elected officials and land employees caught with their together in the plow or accepting gratuities from lobbyists. the governor has said she’ll stoppage any bills that require additional spending, but she did inscribe a tough crime bill that came about after the horrendous home violation in cheshire matrix year, in which a mother and her two daughters were killed. it increases penalties repayment for repeat offenders and provides funds as a replacement for additional state police, prosecutors and parole officers. also awaiting its ruin is a bill that would provide a sub-prime liberation for those caught in the mortgage crisis, surely a major issue. one that is certainly less influential is a rating that would allow the department of motor vehicles to issue plates with a “support our troops” slogan on them. on the other hand, the $60 fee would go to stick up for veterans’ programs. there will be lot of wheeling and dealing between now and the expected special sitting. perhaps an individual year with the session ending on the prescribed date is too much to expect.
