The elder daughter of Pakistan’s assassinated former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, has written a rap song expressing grief over her death.
The song by Bakhtawar Bhutto, 18, comes a year after the assassination and is entitled “I would take the pain away”.
It pays tribute to her mother’s “crazy courage” and describes her as “the epitome of benevolence”.
It has been played regularly on state-run television and has been posted on the video-sharing website YouTube.
‘Weeping’
“My mother was murdered. I don’t even comprehend. Was it worth dying for? I’m walking through screened doors,” Bakhtawar sings in English.
“No comfort or ease. I’m begging you please, God bless the deceased,” she laments in the song.
Praising her mother’s “beauty and intelligence”, the song says that the “whole world is weeping” over the murder.
“Shot in the back of your ear, so young in 54th year, murdered with three kids left behind, a hopeless nation without you, you are in all their hearts,” it says.
The teenager, a student at Edinburgh University, then repeats the chorus line “I would take the pain away”.
A video to accompany the song shows footage and photographs of her smiling mother while election campaigning shortly before her death in Rawalpindi in December 2007 and of public grieving after her death.
Ms Bhutto was killed in a gun and bomb attack on her convoy - blamed on Islamic militants - as it travelled through the city’s Liaquat Bagh park. She had just finished addressing an election rally.
Information Minister Sherry Rehman - who for several years was an aide to Ms Bhutto - told the Reuters news agency that Bakhtawar wrote the lyrics and music while studying in Edinburgh.
“It’s a tribute of a grieving daughter to her iconic and loving mother,” she said.
Ms Rehman said that while music was a hobby for Bakhtawar, she had no plan to pursue it as a career.
The song has had mixed reviews in the British press.
“While her dirge-like rap is unlikely to secure her a Grammy, the seemingly heartfelt tribute might win her some fans,” The Independent newspaper says.
The Guardian says that she uses the song to “pour out her anguish”.
Ms Bhutto’s widower and Bakhtawar’s father, Asif Ali Zardari, became president of Pakistan in September.
Their son, Bilawal, 20, studies at Oxford University in the UK and another daughter, Aseefa, 14, also studies abroad.

Christmas Hoglets
By Libby
I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday, however you celebrate. I just got back from the family festivities myself and am just getting around to the news.
Everybody loves Obama. He has an 82 percent favorable rating on his handling of the transition. Best numbers of any incoming president in the past three decades.
Nobody likes Bush. The LAT looks at the legacy. Shorter: The arrogant SOB singlehandedly turned us from a major world power into the laughingstock of the planet.
Cabdrollery has a very good tool for tracking how often your Congresslizards voted to enable him to do it.
And this is just great. It’s not enough that our local law enforcement is killing people regularly with tasers, now they’re about to get a new toy. Pain beam weapons. Some kind of microwave guns that cause “skin pain.” If memory serves the Pentagon has been working on this weaponry for some time and it creates a sensation of burning. Like the taser, it’s billed as non-lethal but there have been real burn injuries in the testing phase.
On a much brighter note, a A real Christmas miracle story. Family home gets saved by a friend’s blog post. Very uplifting. I recommend it.
Dan has his awards for the best music of 2008. Interesting choices.
Rest in peace, Harold Pinter. He was an amazing playwright.
And finally, SoBeale remembers the ghosts of Christmas presents past.

Prominent Zimbabwean human rights activist Jestina Mukoko, who went missing for three weeks, has appeared in court in the capital, Harare.
The state-run Herald newspaper says Ms Mukoko is charged with attempting to recruit people for military training to try to overthrow the government.
It is unclear when or where the director of the Zimbabwe Peace Project has been over the past three weeks.
The police denied opposition claims that they had been holding her.
After the brief court appearance on Wednesday, officials said the case was being referred up to the High Court and that Ms Mukoko and eight others would be remanded in custody.
A judge ruled that the nine should be taken to private clinics under police supervision, but police are said to have ignored the order.
It was not immediately clear where the activists were being held.
The Herald reported a police statement claiming that one of the defendants had tried to recruit a police constable to undergo military training in Botswana.
The training would have been used to forcibly depose President Robert Mugabe’s government and replace it with one led by opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, said the statement.
Ms Mukoko is one of more than 40 human rights activists and opposition supporters who Mr Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) say have been abducted in the past two months.
International pressure
A Johannesburg-based Zimbabwean human rights lawyer, Annah Moyo, said the charges against Ms Mukoko and others could be used by the Mugabe regime as an excuse to declare a state of emergency and withdraw from power-sharing talks.
“They are trying to come up with confessions from these activists… that they have been part of the people who have been trying to overthrow the Zimbabwean government,” she said.
“This is an indication of a government that is desperate to do whatever it can find to try and hold on to power.”
On Wednesday morning, lawyers in Zimbabwe said they had confirmation that Ms Mukoko was being held at a police station in Harare.
They also said they had managed to locate 14 activists at police stations, but that others were still missing.
Ms Mukoko’s whereabouts had remained a mystery since she was allegedly abducted from her home outside Harare on 3 December by 15 armed men.
In an unusual move, a High Court judge had ordered police to search for her and told the national Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation to run radio and television appeals for information.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Irene Petras of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said Ms Mukoko and others arrested had “fundamental rights and freedoms which are being violated with complete impunity”.
Ms Petras claimed the detainees had been held at unknown locations and possibly subjected to torture and degrading treatment.
Members of the lawyers group took to the streets of Harare last week to highlight Ms Mukoko’s plight, carrying banners protesting against other alleged abductions.
Ms Mukoko’s court appearance comes as international pressure on Mr Mugabe is mounting.
The leader of the governing ANC party in neighbouring South Africa, Jacob Zuma, has described the situation in Zimbabwe as “utterly untenable”.
Meanwhile Archbishop Desmond Tutu said he was “very deeply disappointed” that South Africa has failed to stand up to Mr Mugabe.
But the BBC’s Rachel Harvey reports from neighbouring South Africa that there is no sign for now of an attempt to turn rhetoric into action.
