Fox is Actually Considering Another Planet of the Apes?

Cheap playstation 3

down a month back we brought you some details on a planet of the apes prequel titled genesis: apes. apparently the script, written by rick jaffa and amanda silver (of the relic), had been floating enclosing fox for unreservedly a while. it in fact sounded adulate an interesting story that i would’ve supported if it constantly got made. well, chud has come through again with another update, this time from fox ceo tom rothman. the fox movie channel is showing all five planet of the apes movies (presumably as a promo for the new box set) and at the cessation of the original planet of the apes, rothman himself chimed in with an rousing update. “we are exceptionally agree at fox on a new apes script - this complete a kind of prequel story before the prime story, with a return to the social thematics that hike the first anecdote, but with …

As TV Networks Focus on Mumbai Landmarks, Local Captures Ground Shots On Flickr

Shortly after he heard explosions outside of his home in the Colaba district in Mumbai, 27-year-old Vinu Ranganathan grabbed his camera and ran outside to take some shots. For hours, his graphic photos of the destruction wrought by the terrorists in the Colaba district on the photo-sharing site Flickr seemed to be the only relevant ones available online.Vinucolaba_3

With the orange hues and human police chains blocking crowds from entering streets, the photos gave a sense early on of the pandemonium during the early hours of the terrorist attacks.

Ranganathan, a 2005 Berkeley mechanical engineering graduate, literally became a mini-celebrity overnight as blogs (including Danger Room,) television networks and newspapers around the world picked up his photos to show their audiences what was going on in Mumbai.

Ranganathan answered a few questions via e-mail late Wednesday night about why he ran out into the streets when most people probably would have locked their doors and stayed at home.

Wired.com: Do you live near the scenes where you shot the photos? Where are those shots of the destruction located in Bombay?

Ranganathan: Yes, two minutes walking distance from my apartment. Here’s a Google Maps link: Its in the southern area - the financial district of Mumbai.

Nariman house map

Wired.com: What inspired you to run out and get the shots and upload them to Flickr? Most people would have stayed safely at home.

Ranganathan: I have always been a shutterbug. Would love to be a photo journalist someday! When I heard two loud reverberating [noises] in the night around 10:45pm, I picked my camera bag and headed out.

As I was stepping out my sis said there are reports of firing at CST (train station) - but I suspected it was bomb as it was pretty loud. Turns out they were grenades.

Wired.com: What’s your occupation in Bombay?

Ranganathan: Business Development Manager at www.netcore.co.in.

Wired.com: What does the city feel like right now? Are all the friends all right?

Ranganathan: Luckily all my friends are safe. One of my father’s friends was shot dead at a restaurant. The city is still scared and angry. I feel the situation is still not under control and hostage drama is still on.

Wired.com: Did you feel that you were personally in any danger?

Ranganathan: I think in general every person in Bombay does all the time be it terror, traffic or mob. We have kind of got largely de-sentized. But feelings overflow when things happen ‘live’ near you for 12 hours.

The incident near my place which I took photos - grenades were thrown by the terrorist from the terrace of the building on to the adjacent gas station. And they have taken some families hostage … the situation is still not in control. I have heard 5 gun shots in the last hour (12 hrs after start of the incident!)

Wired.com: Have you ever been in a situation like this before in Bombay, and if so, did you rush out and take photos?

Ranganathan: I have witnessed shoot-out before when I was kid more 12-15 yrs ago when the mob fighting was at its peak. That incident was of mob groups engaging in cross fire over the roof tops of buildings. Even a film got realeased last year on that - “Shootout at Lokandwala.”

Wired.com: Did I see that someone gave you some money to update to a “pro” account? If so, who was that? Was that someone reacting to your shots?

Ranganathan: I was have a problem while uploading my snaps on flickr possibly due to restrictions. I was a pro user but had not renewed it for last 4 months. A Flickr staff who got my twitter decided to give me a 3 month gift of Pro.

High school donations help fill pantry

Salvation Army Turkeys2

Approximately 600 families across Middlesex County will be giving thanks Thursday to the Salvation Army and to those who donated food to the food drive.

Paper bags filled with stuffing, pudding, cake mix, pie filling and candied yams, filled the basement Friday of the Salvation Army building on Myrtle Street.

Families who registered for the drive between Sept. 29 and Nov. 3 are asked to pick up their items today.

Salvation Army Capt. Johnson Germain said the food was donated from several sources.

“We purchase some from the Greater Boston Food Bank,” he said. “We’ve also had people just walking in and donating food.”

One of the major donors of the food drive this year was Waltham High School faculty and students, who donated approximately 96 turkeys to the cause, among other food items.

Waltham High School teachers Janis Marchese and Nathaniel Rono and a group of 15 students organized a food drive at the high school.

“I heard a piece on the radio about how there was a real increase in the demand for food assistance across the state, and I just thought that it would be nice if the school community could contribute to this important cause,” Rono said. “When I arrived in school that morning, I spoke with Janis and it was immediately clear that she was eager to help.”

The students also donated items to Sandra’s Lodge, an emergency family shelter for the homeless. The food was delivered to both facilities on Friday.

“Hopefully they will gain a better perspective, understanding and appreciation of the difficulties in their community,” Marchese said. “Also, it’s great for kids to have another opportunity to help out their community.”

Wired-o-Nomics: Breadlines? Not Yet.

Portfolio_3 Want two words to prove the U.S. economy hasn’t totally bottomed yet?

BlackBerry Storm.

On a day when shares of Citigroup fell 20 percent by lunchtime and U.S. automakers’ odds of survival were dwindling, New York filmmaker Adrian Richards stood in line at a Verizon Wireless store in Midtown Manhattan for four hours for a chance to spend $199 on a new Storm the day it was released.

Why? “Basically,” he admits, “I don’t want to get it after everyone else.”

The Associated Press reported this morning that hundreds lined up for the new BlackBerry phone ? a slick, touchscreen model that Research in Motion hopes will be a real competitor against the all-powerful iPhone from Apple.

Steven Amezquita, who emerged from the store victorious, holding a brown paper Verizon bag, got wide-eyed stares from the 30 people still waiting in line. He said he was excited to get to his job (no surprise, he’s an I.T. consultant) because he was “ready to rub it in everybody’s face.”

By 11:30 a.m., the 34th Street Verizon outpost was one of the few in the city to even still have the phone.

Further uptown, at the Verizon store on 57th Street, employees said a line had formed by 7 a.m., and the Storm was sold out by 9.

BlackBerry devotee Jules (she declined to give her last name) went Storm-chasing through New York City this morning. She checked out the display model at the 57th Street store and is planning on reserving one of the phones. It was the third Verizon store she’d visited without being able to actually buy one.

“I really think Verizon should have better measured the number of phones they would need,” she said.

Maybe executives at Verizon and Research in Motion have been watching the news, noticing rising unemployment numbers, freefalling financial markets, and plunging retail sales, and figured consumer demand wouldn’t reach this fevered pitch.

They may not have expected the masses to huddle for the storm, especially with the tenacity of filmmaker Richards, who finally got inside the Verizon store just before noon, hoping to get his hands on a Storm. “Hopefully,” he said.

A Taste Of Things To Come: Far Right Senators Filibuster Extending Unemployment Insurance

h.r. 6867, the unemployment compensation extension act of 2008, was introduced by jim mcdermott (d-wa) on september 10 and it passed overwhlemingly on october 3. barely the 28 most unusually right wing republicans voted against extending unemployment insurance to the hardest hit american families who are the worst of the victims of the bush economic miracle all these republicans voted for. most of them are neo-nazi backbenchers and a few of the names are all too familiar to dwt readers, like michele bachmann (r-mn), of movement, her lunatic fringe colleagues paul broun (r-ga), john shadegg (r-az), steve king (r-ia), ron paul (r-tx), virginia foxx (r-nc), doug lamborn (r-co) and in these times ex-rep bill sali, whose irate constituents had the brains and the will power to repay him in kind on designation time and obliterate his debased career. one less palpable opponent of american families we won’t have to worry about again!so why bring this up today? probably, with the latest unemployment broadcast showing jobless claims jumping to a 16 year considerable and the stock market crashing on fears of a “deep recession” (a polite way of saying a depression)– and orderly bush agreeing to sign the bill– the senate, after all the weeping from ted stevens defeat– finally got around to considering it. and immediately the far without hesitating of the republican senate caucus announces a filibuster, which means the democrats need 60 votes to pass it. let’s hope that all the filibusters are this flexible to best in the coming couple years. the hard core lunatic fringe republicans who refused to vote for it were:jim demint (r-sc), who thinks he should be the ruler of the oppositionorrin formulate (r-ut)james inhofe (r-ok)tom coburn (r-ok)john barrasso (r-wy)michael enzi (r-wy)bob geiger couldn’t come on any kind words through despite this allotment of scoundrels. in only of the best senate-disconcert speeches i in all cases heard ted kennedy (d-ma) give, he brutalized senate republicans for continuing to block the first increase in the minimal wage in almost a decade and roared to the other side of the aisle “what is it about working men and womenthat you find so offensive?”"what is it about it that drives you republicans idiotic? what is it?” asked kennedy about gop objections to raising the minimum wage take to task. “what is the expenditure that the workers have to pay to get an spreading?”…[s]uch crushed gentlemen, these six republicans, huh?hopefully, their evenings last will and testament be complete if they can only espy a homeless child to drop-kick on the concede untroubled b in.not hardly homeless, bob– affected and tramps, since these are the but legislators who play a joke on also opposed extending salubriousness vigilance to needy children. barrasso, enzi and inhofe were all proper re-elected by the voters of wyoming and oklahoma, the lion’s share of whom, apparently, are completely intellectual-dead.

Ad-Mashup Video Brings “Max Headroom” Vision Of The Future Ever Closer [Blipverts]

Call it more evidence of The End Of Ideas or just another sign that the global economy needs to widen its manufacturing base, but an Australian YouTube user has put together a song in which every piece of music is nicked from some ad or another, like Cadbury’s Phil Collins homage and an ad for Australian tampons that pays tribute to Guitar Hero. There are also commercials for one of those “we make chicks horny” body sprays and a car rental company within. But the products, for the most part, aren’t identified, which makes me wonder: When is one of the included agencies going to slap a cease-and-desist on the project unless it ponies up with some brand identification? I’d say “tomorrow,” but I think it’s already the 18th Down Under… [YouTube via Songs For Soap]
