SXSW Update: Primal Scream, St. Vincent, and Beach House

image from sxsw’s websitewhile you were away at your family get-together or taking a much needed break from excessive internet usage this time off available, sxsw announced a touch off of confirmed bands playing the festival next year, including primal scream, clubby fires, and ra ra riot. st. vincent, beach house, bonnie prince billy, black lips, and dappled cities are just a few of the other confirmed names we’re already getting bothered into. there is a fairly extensive list on do512’s blog containing rumored as well as confirmed artists.

The 2009 edition of SXSW Music takes place in Austin, TX from March 18th to March 22nd. Keynote Speaker Quincy Jones will address the masses on March 19th.

as einstein famously said, “everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” 2008 was caught somewhere in the spectrum of simplicity. satisfactory, 2008 was justifiable spooky. there was an important presidential election. the succinctness went into hibernation. and we picked our favorite albums, twenty-five of ‘em actually! without yet ado, here are the best albums of 2008:

m83 - saturday = youththere is something to be said relating to the artists who influenced the name of this site, m83. the french group have a grotesque catalogue of music that utilizes the shoegazing sounds of reverb and soft lyricism, with saturdays=youth only progressing their sound. frontman (and only man) anthony gonzalez delves deeper into ambient tones that were abundant on m83’s debut and embraces a 1980s sound. the rich textures of m83’s music are still abundantly allowance but have been refocused on song order, altering the relaxed noise of m83 enough to make saturdays=youth a important gem. - nathaniel[mp3] m83 - we own the sky (maps remix)myspace more mp3s buy @ insound
