inman-re-nyc-connect.jpg

the last bull vs stand up debate (click connect for mail on discussions held at the mould conference), held in san francisco in july, saw bill from calculated risk, yves from nakedcapitalism, john from shadowstats, avram goldman, dottie herman and myself go at it instead of about an hour. here is the info for next weeks talk: wednesday, jan 7th, 3:45 p.m. ? 4:30 p.m. bulls vs. bears: the great housing market collapse 2008 was a tough year for valid place. is 2009 going to be any think twice? ascertain from these leading market watchers panelists: noah rosenblatt, abort, urbandigs.com barry ritholtz, chief market strategist, ritholtz scrutiny & ceo; numero uno of equity research, fusion iq carter murdoch, svp, marketing and compliance Mr Big, bank of america lawrence yun, chief economist and older vp of research, national association of realtors br we all distinguish from the big perfect example inform & fusion iq, i not in any degree met carter murdoch before so i look forward to that, and i never met lawrence either but, ummm, my advice to him would be…”take a few shots in the vanguard coming to the panel!”. the nar has not had the best calls during the route of this national housing collapse and there was even a blog dedicated to yun’s calls. this should type for a very interesting bull vs bear debate. the only problem that i see is that if you are always a perma-bull, when all is said you’ll be right. infallible you may have been wrong for years, but at bottom the market will bottom and it will be a great time to buy & a great time to sell, right? whats a perma-bull you ask? it’s someone who sees a bull shop every day of every week of every year. still don’t get it? here check this out via hedgefolios.com: you be familiar with you are a permabull when?? * each time the market-place declines you declare it a “healthy pullback” * laterally moves are actually just the make available “taking a breather” or a “pause” * missing earnings estimates is ok as long as administration confirms next quarter’s guidance * nasty charge is ok as covet as last quarter’s earnings beat estimates * you criticize any analyst that downgrades your stock from “strong buy” to “buy” * you applaud in want economic results as salubrious for the market because this time they will cause the fed to stop raising rates * any negative market commentary is evidence of a mammoth “wall of worry” that the market needs to go higher * you plead that a 10% run out of steam is a “great buying opportunity” * you blame any market decline on bluff sellers who decent don’t understand * unguent declines to $60 and you expect that wishes cause the market to head higher * oil increases assisting $70 and you point distant how the market has been able to absorb higher unguent prices * you quote the cliches “history repeats itself” for dictatorial things and “it’s singular this time” in support of disputatious ones * an inverted yield curve doesn’t concern you at all??kudlow & dennis kneale are permabulls. they were both very bullish 12 months ago, and they are both restful very bullish. and they purposefulness unendingly be very bullish because media needs that job to depict to us people. keep one’s ears open to them on down days, and you’ll see what i mean. when the dow was at 14,000, 13,000, 12,000, 11,000, 10,000, 9,000, 8,000, and 7,680 it was all the same story. now that the goldilocks moniker was alive, then sick, then alive again, then on life confirm and now lukewarm, its all about the mustard seeds of development!

copyright ?? 2009 miss604 - rebecca bollwitt. if you are not viewing this post auspices of the miss604.com sustain then this content has been republished without lenience. sojourn the original article at http://www.miss604.com/2008/12/2008-in-give one’s opinion of-january-to-june.html.

i’ve decided to do a photo record for my official “year in review” but going through my iphoto and flickr archives i realized it would be inconceivable to only choose one photo to represent each month. i’ve unswerving to do this recap of 2008 in two posts, january to june then july to december (which will follow later) each with photos representing each month.

January January 2008 Archives

several big things happened in january, the first was meeting tom larscheid and john shorthouse up in the broadcast gondola of gm place thanks to john.

Another was being named one of the “Tech Women to Watch” by Raincity Studios (which was celebrated among with the other fine women named at Launch Party).

There was also my flash trip to Toronto to be a part of the victorious Team Blogger on CBC’s television show, Test the Nation. I met some amazing bloggers and podcasters from across the country (and traveled with some too) and got to meet Samantha Bee (our assigned celebrity and blogger).

I visited my friend Keira’s favourite little place to play in the snow for the first time last February. Mount Washington over on Vancouver Island is pretty darn amazing and I had a wonderful time hanging out in her hometown to boot.

Birthday Boris!

This was the month for Northern Voice where I live blogged, updated wikis, wore a sheriff badge, was on a panel, and captured my friend Dave’s now internet-famous talk, “F*ck Stats, Make Art“.

It was also in February that The Crazy Canucks did their first (official) podcast recordings from GM Place and I was on an episode of The Lab With Leo.

Atheist Group Files Lawsuit to Stop Obama From Saying “So Help me God” During Presidential Inauguration….

Barackbible

I’m filing a lawsuit allowing me to kick these fuckers in the face…repeatedly.

The head of an atheist group that has filed a lawsuit against prayer at Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration says the government is picking a winner between “believers” and “those who don’t believe” and subjecting atheists and agnostics to someone else’s religious beliefs.

The oscar

Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, has joined with Michael Newdow, who fought to have the words “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance, in a federal lawsuit seeking to enjoin the Presidential Inaugural Committee from sponsoring prayers at the official inauguration.

The 34-page legal complaint similarly seeks to enjoin Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Jr., from adding the phrase “So help me God” to the presidential oath of office.

“We’re hoping to stop prayer and religious rituals at governmental functions, especially at the inauguration,” Barker told FOX News Radio.

Software for Civic Life: An Interview with Mike Mathieu of Frontseat.org

In this interview Mike Mathieu, founder of Frontseat.org, discusses how he is helping to build “software for civic life”. Using publicly available data and web services (many of their applications use S3 and EC2) Frontseat creates simple, highly functional tools like Walkscore (rating neighborhood walkability) and Countmore (helping students in the recent elections decide which state to cast their vote in). Mike is also behind obamaCTO where you can add your opinion and cast your vote for what the new CTO of the USA’s priorities should be.

New years trivia questions

With the recent election there has been a lot of talk and enthusiasm for the possibility of a more open, modern government that operates with transparency and makes data available for remixing by it’s citizens. People have their eye on government to change…This is a worthy goal to push for but don’t hold your breath. The government of the United States is a behemoth that, all told, employs 12 million people and is preternaturally territorial and risk averse…Pressing government to change is necessary but is not the only bet we should place. Mike makes the point in this video that we don’t need to wait for data that can improve civic life or increase transparency in government. If you know of other examples of citizens improving civic life that deserve mention, please share them in the comments.Part one of this interview is available here.
