Cab Surcharge Could End Next Week

Look for cab fares to drop next week if gasoline prices keep falling.

The current 50-cent taxicab fuel surcharge could disappear Nov. 14 if gas prices in the metropolitan area remain below an average of $2.70 per gallon.

Chicago’s Department of Consumer Services sent a notice to cab drivers alerting them to that possibility and reminding them to remove surcharge notices in their cabs by 12:01 a.m. Nov. 14 should gas prices remain low.
