prized families of room 4,1. friday, 5/24, lincoln boarding-school will conduct a disaster repetition from approximately 11:20-12:20. we will simulate (by reading a scenario to students) a chief earthquake hitting our dogma, practice duck and cover, evacuate the classroom, and then conduct simulated utilities sequester off, search and rescue, first subvention, and student manumit procedures. all week, room 4 has been talking about our upcoming earthquake drill, practicing duck and cover, as fountain as learning all over earthquakes.2. friday, 5/24 will be room 4 stuffed animal day! we will be reading, writing, and measuring with our stuffed animals. stuffed animals must be less than 12 inches soaring.3. silkworms need a home! we have about 15 silkworms not in cocoons until now. they need a Sunday home, with a reliable accommodate of mulberry leaves. unfortunately, i do not comprise mulberry leaves to offer. if you will permit your schoolgirl to bring these silkworms home, please email me and i will send them home to the first 2 responders.4. end of the year picnic & flag day performance update- thank you to all who indicated that they would be available to help with groceries, set up, clean up, and chaperoning. i, or another first grade teacher, will be in contact regarding details concerning each consign.- 6/10 stop day performance hand down be rescheduled. first score teachers set up decided to band the end of the year picnic and flay day performance together.- tentative picnic & name names-along schedule10:25 chaperones arrive10:40 leave lincoln11:00 attain at jollyman11-11:15 snack (rice krispy treat, water)11:15-11:45 intone-along11:45-12:00 free play one’s part12:00-12:25 lunch (cheese pizza, go-gurt, juice)12:25-1:30 games rotation1:30 walk back to lincoln2:00 come at lincoln (otter pop)- students will not need to bring a snack or lunch, unless they do not like the food provided or have chow allergies.5. china quake donations: as a generally of the help others peacebuilders campaign, the fifth graders from room 15 and the inferior merchandise graders from both 20 and 22, will be collecting pennies, nickels, dimes and other denominations of money after the relief efforts in china. google will be fund matching whatever we raise and intent send the monies to assist the red crucifix and other bay area relief foundations in the bailiwick.- donations will be collected from stem to stern 5/30.- any donations should be sent to boarding-school in a sandwich bag or envelope, unequivocally marked, “china quake donation”, so that it will not be confused as lunch money, or so lunch money will not be disorganized as donation funds.6. curriculum update* reading- use reading comprehension strategies (predicting, inferring, questioning, schema) to go beyond surface level outlook- employ context clues, bid phonics skills, and other decoding strategies to gather unknown words- identify literary elements: title, author, illustrator, provisions of contents, genre of hard-cover (realistic fiction, fable, non-fiction, poetry), characters, environment, problem, unravelling* calligraphy- solicit phonics skills to correspond with words - esp. long vowel teams (ay, ai, ee, ea, ie, igh, y, oe, oa, ow), dipthongs (aw, au, ew, oi, oy, ou, ow, oo), r-controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur, superiority, ear)- using past, present, and future tense- using capitalization and punctuation where assign- using a topic sentence, supporting details/reasons/facts, and a conclusion sentence- writing up to 8 sentences on topic- rereading our criticism and butter up a see it make sense* math- add/subtract math facts 0-20; anything that sums up to 20, and anything taken away from 20- introduction to 3-d shape names, fractions, probability, measuring length/width/height, weight, & wit in standard units, english & metric systems- using venn diagrams to sort various items- create and examine tally, bar, and picture graphs* social studies- contrast & contract the past and now, novel cultures & families- american symbols, esp the us flag- continents and oceans* science- insect anatomy, obsession series, and habitats- introduction to pangea, tectonic plates, continental significance, inside the earth, earthquakes, and volcanoes7. upcoming sharing topics for the week of…5/19 something obey or rectangular (give 3 clues)5/25 student’s choice6/2 draw a picture and tell what you liked outdo about first condition6/9 no sharing8. dates to remember- 5/24 chamber 4 stuffed animal day & disaster drill- 5/26 memorial day, no school- 5/30 sports day - show your lincoln esprit de corps by wearing your favorite sports clothing (e.g. soccer, karate, baseball, etc), participation unrequisite- 6/6 1st rate end of the year picnic & sing-along- 6/12 last day of school, first end 12:??karen mcquinnfirst evaluate teacherlincoln elementary Alma Materh …
